Volunteering with LandPaths for Forest Health & Wildfire Prevention

Over the weekend, members of Santa Rosa Women for Good spent a rewarding day outdoors volunteering with LandPaths, supporting hands-on efforts to improve forest health and reduce wildfire risk in our region.

LandPaths is a Sonoma County–based nonprofit dedicated to connecting people to the land. Through stewardship projects, outdoor education, and volunteer opportunities, the organization works to care for local parks, preserves, and open spaces while helping community members build a deeper relationship with the natural landscapes that surround us.

Our volunteer day focused on forest stewardship and wildfire prevention, an increasingly important effort in our region. Under the guidance of the LandPaths team, volunteers helped thin and prune forested areas to remove excess vegetation that can act as fuel during wildfire season.

Volunteers hiked into the work areas to gather wood debris and build burn piles, learning how to shape, light, monitor, and safely extinguish them under the guidance of LandPaths staff. The process offered a beginner-friendly, hands-on way to reduce wildfire fuel while returning nutrients to the soil and supporting the overall health of the forest.

Beyond the work itself, the day offered an opportunity for members to spend time together outdoors, learn about forest management practices, and support the stewardship of the landscapes that make Sonoma County such a special place to live.

We are grateful to the LandPaths team for leading this important work and for welcoming our group into a meaningful day of service.

Volunteer days like this are one of the many ways Santa Rosa Women for Good connects community, learning, and local impact. We look forward to continuing to support the organizations and efforts that help care for our region and the people who call it home.
