FAQ

  • What is a giving circle?

A giving circle is a form of collaborative philanthropy where likeminded individuals come together to pool their financial resources and collectively decide how to allocate them to charitable causes, thus amplifying the impact. Together, members engage in a democratic process to select the organizations they wish to support, through discussions, presentations, and voting.

  • How much does it cost?

Santa Rosa Women for Good suggests a $100 per quarter minimum donation per member. Every penny of your donation will be granted to our awarded recipients. There are no fees, dues or other required costs. Our group takes equity and diversity seriously and we want to be able to provide a space and voice for members of all backgrounds and life experience. lf you are interested in participating but find the financial commitment a hardship, please reach out to our leadership team and we can explore options for sponsorship.

  • Who runs Santa Rosa Women for Good?

Our giving circle is 100% democratically run by our volunteer members. Every member has equal standing and all are able to nominate and vote on our grants. Santa Rosa Women for Good has a leadership team who have volunteered for additional responsibilities to help facilitate the administrative responsibilities of our group. Visit here to learn more about our leadership team.

  • What is the time commitment?

Our giving circle is flexible and designed to fit your life. There are no required meetings, no mandatory volunteer hours, and no minimum participation expectations. At its simplest, membership means making your quarterly donation and casting your quarterly vote for the nonprofit you’d like to see receive our collective grant. Everything else—attending events, joining socials, volunteering, or engaging more deeply—is entirely optional and up to you. You can be as involved as you want, when you want.

  • Do I have to be a member to attend events?

No, all of our social and volunteer events are open to anyone who wants to learn more, connect with our community, or simply see what we’re all about. Members are always welcome and encouraged to bring friends, colleagues, or any women in their lives who might be curious about joining our giving circle or engaging with the community work we are doing.

  • How does the grant cycle work?

Each quarter, our grant cycle moves through three simple phases: Gather, where members nominate nonprofits; Grant, where members learn and vote to award our grant; and Celebrate, where we honor the newly awarded nonprofit and hear firsthand about their impact. It’s an accessible, community-driven process designed for meaningful, collective giving. Want the full breakdown? Learn more about our grant cycle on our Member Information Page.

  • Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes! Your entire quarterly donation is 100% tax deductible. Santa Rosa Women for Good works with Grapevine, a non-profit platform that supports giving circles around the United States. If you’d like to learn more about Grapevine, visit their website here.
