The Living Room: Where Women Rise & Communities Thrive
We’re delighted to turn the spotlight to The Living Room which was the recipient of our very first grant in 2023. The Living Room is a local nonprofit that supports women, their children and their pets facing housing insecurity, crisis, or homelessness. Based right here in Santa Rosa, The Living Room is more than a shelter: it’s a place of dignity, safety, and transformation for women across Sonoma County.
We want to take this opportunity to share what this organization does and why it matters so much to our neighbors. We are looking forward to finding new ways to help support their mission in 2026!
For more than 30 years, The Living Room has been a steady, welcoming presence for women and children in Sonoma County who are experiencing homelessness or crisis. What began as a small, grassroots effort to offer a safe daytime space for women has grown into a vital community hub providing housing, meals, and life-changing support.
Today, The Living Room operates two primary campuses in Santa Rosa where their team and volunteers serve thousands of women and families each year. In 2024 alone, volunteers contributed more than 7,000 hours of service and helped prepare and distribute over 55,000 meals to community members in need.
As the need for affordable housing continues to rise in Sonoma County, The Living Room has continued to expand its impact. Recently, the organization opened a new transitional housing site in Santa Rosa, providing temporary, supportive housing for women and children as they work toward stability and independence. Each new initiative reinforces The Living Room’s long-standing commitment to meeting women where they are with compassion, respect, and practical resources that make recovery possible.
At the inception of Santa Rosa Women for Good, our goal was to create a way for local women to come together and make a meaningful difference in our community. When it came time to select our very first grant recipient, The Living Room’s mission immediately resonated with us. Their work embodies everything we stand for: women supporting women, and creating spaces of safety, dignity, and opportunity right here in Sonoma County.
The compassion and commitment of The Living Room’s team inspired all of us. From providing warm meals and shelter to offering guidance, education, and encouragement, they help women move forward with strength and hope. We’re honored to support their efforts and proud that our inaugural grant went to such an incredible organization that continues to uplift and empower local women and families in need.
